Perhaps that rugged early season schedule is beginning to pay off for Stephenville. After battling 4A and 5A powers for much of the early season, the Honeybees overwhelmed fellow 3A member Graham Friday night.
"The girls did good, and of course it helps that we're playing 3A schools now," said head coach Fran Metzger, whose club will actually see a 2A opponent when they host Peaster at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Gandy Gym. "We've had a rough pre-district, but I can see the improvements we've made and I think we are starting to come around."
They came around in time to slam the Lady Blues 25-17, 25-21, 25-16 on their home court Friday.
"We've focused a lot on reducing our errors, and we did a good job of that," said Metzger. "When you don't have as many errors, you force the opponent to not make errors."
After hosting Peaster, Stephenville will be off next Friday, then host Robinson on Tuesday, Sept. 24. In District 7-3A action - the Honeybees are defending district champs - begins Friday, Sept. 27, at Hillsboro.
Stephenville was a perfect 8-0 in district play last year, and has lost only three district matches the last three years.
