National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is in October, and soon pink ribbons will begin springing up just about everywhere.

About one in eight women born in the United States will get breast cancer at some point during her life. After skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, according to healthfinder.gov.

To help bring awareness to the importance of early detection and mammograms, the Empire-Tribune is working on a special section highlighting local women's battle against the disease.

If you are fighting breast cancer - or have battled the disease - and are willing to share your story, contact us.
