The hunt is finally over for a man wanted in connection with the brutal beating of Erath County resident Ricky Stephens.
Danny Dittoe, 39, was arrested late Wednesday afternoon in Jasper County, according to Chief Deputy Jason Upshaw.
"From what I understand they found him in a camping trailer in the middle of the woods," Upshaw said.
The arrest marks the end of a months-long manhunt by local authorities who sought assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service.
Dittoe has been on the run since he was named as a suspect in a crime so brutal that it shocked veteran law enforcement officials.
Stephens was found severely beaten, burned and left for dead on FM 205 on Feb. 17. What might have prompted the assault has never been made public by investigators.
Ashley Walton, Jody Bob Cohran and Dustin Davis have also been arrested in the case and remain incarcerated at the Erath County Jail.
Upshaw said he is waiting on more information about the arrest and working to get Dittoe brought back to Erath County.
