Stephenville is gearing up to celebrate its rich rodeo heritage - for a week.

The Cowboy Capital of the World Pro Rodeo Association has announced the thrilling line-up for Rodeo Heritage Week, Sept. 21-29. The week leads off the grand finale with the official PRCA Rodeo at Lone Star Arena Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29.

"We appreciate the community’s support and want to thank all of our sponsors in advance for helping make this a successful rodeo and a week full of events that live up to the Cowboy Capital of the World image," said Chad Decker, president of the Cowboy Capital Pro Rodeo Association.

Rodeo Heritage Week will kick off at the Cowboy Capital Walk of Fame Plaza on the downtown square with an event hosted by Bruner Motors and RAM Trucks. The kickoff celebration will be followed by a parade and community members are invited out to enjoy live music, food, stick horse races and much more.

July Danley, president of the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce and Rodeo Committee member, said the action will continue on Sunday, Sept. 22, with the Erath County Team Roping at Lone Star Arena. Event planners say some of the best ropers from the area will compete for case prizes and bragging rights, with the top 15 joining the lineup for the rodeo Sept. 27-29.

Other events will include a western art exhibit reception at Clark Regional Airport on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 5-7 p.m.; Cowboy Capital Buck N Duck Rodeo at Lone Star Arena on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m.; Jeff Sewalt Iron Man Competition (golf, team roping, pool tournament), Thursday, Sept. 26, at 9 a.m.; Rodeo Legends Reception at Bruner Motors RAM Store, Thursday, Sept. 25, 5-6 p.m.; and a Meet and Greet with Bobby Kerr and his mustangs and ‘Wild Child’ Troy Lerwill at Bruner Motors RAM Store, Saturday, Sept. 28, 10 a.m.-noon.

Professional rodeo action will begin Friday, Sept. 27, at Lone Star Arena. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights with rodeo action starting at 7. A Dancin’ in the Dirt Texas Music Concert will follow the rodeo each night and will feature Will Hobbs and the Crop Dusters.

The final performance will be a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. with gates opening at 12:30. Activities will include the queen contest, calf scramble, mutton bustin’, Bobby Kerr’s mustang makeover act and much more.

"The Stephenville area has a rich history of legendary cowboys and cowgirls that have contributed to our western heritage and is home to many world champions and even more up and coming professional rodeo athletes," said Danley. "We invite everyone to join us in celebrating an important industry that brings world-wide notoriety and significant economic impact to our community."
