Just one game and five practices into its season, Hico couldn't keep up with Dallas Gateway Thursday, taking a 56-33 loss in the opening round of tournament play in Santo.

Colton Stegall poured in 22 points for the Tigers, but that was twice as much as the rest of the team combined.

"We're still going through some woes trying to get everything in," said Hico head coach Brad Stegall. "We only had two practices and one game coming in, then we managed to keep it close early before kind of running out of steam at the end."

It was 29-22 at the break before Gateway rolled, 27-11 in the third and fourth quarters.

"We missed a ton of shots, but I think we can take care of that once we can get in the gym more," Stegall said. "We have to find something to go with (Colton Stegall's) 22."

Lane Turner scored four for the Tigers, Mason Warren netted three and Cade Hitzfeld and Ryder Needam each added two.

Hico faces Cross Plains in Santo on Friday.
