After breaking two school records and leading his team to 700 yards of offense, Stephenville senior quarterback Tyler Jones has been nominated for TexasFootball.com's Gridiron Legends Texas High School Player of the Week.
The playoffs week two voting is taking place now in the lower right corner of texasfootball.com/highschool.
Jones set school single-game school records for passing touchdowns with eight and passing yards with 486. He shattered the old record of five passing touchdowns, tied by himself and others. The old passing yards mark was 477, set by Kendal Briles in 1999.
Jones also rushed for 114 yards, giving him a hand in 600 yards of total offense, also believed to be a school mark.
Stephenville defeated Kennedale 56-24 on the back of Jones' big performance. The No. 3 Yellow Jackets face No. 2 Abilene Wylie in a 3A Division I quarterfinal Friday in Wichita Falls.
A Texas State pledge, Jones received the Built Ford Tough 3A Player of the Week honor after passing for three touchdowns and rushing for two against Glen Rose on Oct. 12.
