Stephenville FAITH (11-0) is one win from completing its mission to repeat as state champions in Division II of the Texas Christian Athletic League.
Shadd Cole passed for five touchdowns as the Knights rolled past Tyler HEAT 54-8 in a game that was stopped in the third quarter at Cubs Stadium in Brenham. The Knights face Bastrop Tribe, a 78-57 winner over Cleburne Christian Academy in the other semifinal Saturday.
The No. 1 Knights won their 19th straight game dating back to last year. It was the eighth straight week they invoked six-man football's 45-point mercy rule.
Cole was 7-10 passing for 240 yards with three touchdowns going to Justin Baugh and two to Daniel Winkler. Baugh had four catches for 123 yards and Winkler hauled in five for 110. Cole also scrambled for 101 yards and a TD, while Jared Veldhuizen also rushed for a score.
The Knights rolled up 433 yards in the abbreviated blowout. Cole had a hand in 341 of those yards and also made six tackles on defense.
Winkler and Jacob Thompson led the defense with 13 and 11 tackles, respectively. Thompson added a sack, while Joey Braun and Josh Yant each made six stops and Baugh recorded five.
The championship is set for noon Saturday at the Methodist Children's Home in Waco.
