It's that time of year again, and the holidays wouldn't be the same without Stephenville's annual Holly Jolly Christmas event sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and SPARD. The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.
The high point of the evening will be the the official lighting of the Christmas tree at the corner of the Downtown Plaza, near City Hall and the chamber office of W. Washington Street with Kenny Weldon officiating. Weldon is looking forward to his first time to participate in the fun as acting mayor.
"It's a great opportunity for us to come together as a community," he said. "I am excited to be a part of the festivities and to meeting Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus."
There will be horse-drawn carriage rides, caroling in the courthouse by student choirs, dance and theater performances, holiday shopping, lighted hay rides that will take visitors to see a live nativity at Stephenville Museum and pictures with Santa.
SPARD will also host the annual giant greeting card contest, which promises to enhance the holiday merriment.
