The Gamma Zeta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society met Nov. 5 at Faith Lutheran Church. Forty-five minutes prior to the meeting, consultants from Pampered Chef, Silpada and Mary Kay allowed members to have an on-site shopping spree/fundraiser. With Thanksgiving décor, hostesses served delicious taco soup and all the trimmings to twenty-two members.
President Cheryl Konz called the meeting to order and reported that a Necrology ceremony will occur during the December meeting in memory of beloved longtime member Eloise Horak. Her daughters will attend for the impressive memorial . Chapter member, Kathryn Heinrichs, principal at Hico ISD, presented a pro active approach about Texas Teacher Retirement System’s defined benefit plan that the Texas Legislature will consider in the upcoming session. Dr. Jill Burk clearly defined the difference between the defined benefit plan and the defined contribution plan. Linda Dolye informed and challenged members to apply for scholars and grants available through DKG. Nonmembers who are aspiring educators can apply for $500-$1000 scholarships with the recommendation of a member With two years of active membership, scholarships from $500-$5000 can be awarded to society educators.
Delta Kappa Gamma exists to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. The next Meeting will be held Dec. at 5:45 at Faith Lutheran Church with a Christmas theme, Celebrating with Friends.
