On behalf of the United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church of Stephenville, I want to thank the many persons who helped make the School Supplies Project a success: those who registered families, translated Spanish/English, shopped for supplies, filled bags, set up for distribution, and worked at giving out supplies.

Many adults and children were from our friends at FUMC, Oakdale UMC, First Presbyterian Church and youth earning service hours for school. Ellen Wells distributed materials about healthy food choices; H.O.P.E. provided backpacks and shoe vouchers to Payless; Ranger School of Cosmetology provided free haircut vouchers; and The Empire Tribune provided great news coverage. We were able to provide about double the number of students helped last year with supplies needed to begin this school year. The baked potato luncheon and extra garage sale might have provided enough money for a projected 150 students, however, the number rose to almost 250. Thanks for money donations from a few individuals and the Presbyterian Church we were able to fill most of the items on the various school lists. I am truly humbled and grateful for all the caring people who made this project a success and I appreciated working with Evelyn Velchoff, my partner in this project.
