The planning committee for Stephenville Medical and Surgical Clinic’s annual health fair reports that vendor response has been excellent, and there will be something for everyone at the fair this year.

Health Fair Coordinator, Jo Ann Shipman, said 44 vendors have registered to participate. The theme is “Get Up and Move!”

“We have had a tremendous response from local vendors as well as vendors from Weatherford, Waco and Fort Worth,” Shipman said. “The health fair will offer everything from driving safety for teens and seniors, to nutritional information, back health, and health screenings such as scoliosis, hearing, skin cancer, early childhood development, blood pressure and blood glucose. We are happy to have some of our physicians participate in the health fair as well. Dr. Christy Kerr and Dr. Ben Marcum will man the 'Ask the Doctor' booth, and Dr. Stephen Erck will provide skin cancer screenings.”

There will be other medical personnel available that day as well to provide health information and screenings such as home health agencies, long term care facilities, medical equipment companies, the local hospital and dentists. Kinesiology majors from TSU will be present to provide fitness assessments for children.

There will be performances by local entertainers throughout the health fair including Destinee King, martial arts groups, and the Red Hat Steppers. In a separate room from the main event, speakers/presenters are scheduled from 9:15 until 11:30 a.m. to provide information on elder care, back health, men’s health, Alzheimer’s disease, and the Stephenville Public Library will have a story time for children.

“We are trying to offer a little bit of everything for everyone,” Shipman said.

Every child in attendance will receive a free jump rope. Also, if you caught one of SMSC’s frisbees during the July 4th parade, bring it to the health fair to receive a prize at the door. Vendors will be providing door prizes which will be given out during the health fair.

The fair is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22, at Henderson Junior High from 9 a.m. until noon.
