Women interested in learning how to defend themselves against an attack are invited to sign up to attend a free self-defense course at Tarleton State University.
R.A.D. (rape, aggression, defense) classes are taught every year during the fall and spring semesters by officers Kristie Bint, Cody Beam and Steve Miller.
"The whole idea is to teach women how to protect themselves and get away in case they are attacked," Bint said.
Most of the women who complete the course, particularly college students, walk away with more confidence knowing they can take care of themselves, Bint said.
Classes for this semester's course will be held from 6-9 p.m. Sept. 11, 12, 18, and 19 at Wisdom Gym.
The 12-hour course includes lecture, discussions and self-defense lessons suitable for women of all ages and abilities, according to Bint. Participants must attend all classes to get certified.
Classes are free, but only a limited number of women can participate.
