Despite a few grumbles of protest from local youngsters about the start of school in less than a week, there are also feelings tinged with excitement in anticipation of a rite of passage assigned to school aged children world wide.
Stephenville ISD faculty and staff have been hard at work since the middle of the month, preparing themselves as well as their classes for the influx of their charges. In a bid to alleviate an excess of first day jitters for the youngest of the students, the district hosts a “Meet the Teachers” event each year before the official opening of schools. Central Elementary's English kindergarten classes will meet from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Students of pre-kindergarten, bilingual kindergarten and preschool programs for children with disabilities classes will meet from 5-6 p.m. Thursday.
The remaining elementary campuses have staggered their meeting times on Thursday to accommodate families of multiage students. Chamberlin Elementary will be open for visits from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Doors are open for the event at Hook Elementary from 6-7 p.m. And students of Gilbert Intermediate can stop in to meet their teachers from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
The older student population will have to wait until after Labor Day to introduce parents to their teachers.
Henderson Junior High's doors will be open Tuesday, Sept. 4, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., and the visiting hour at Stephenville High School will take place Monday, Sept. 10, from 6-7 p.m.
