Lingleville tied Sidney 2-2 and was outscored 4-1 by Cherokee in its opening scrimmage in Sidney Friday night.

Junior quarterback Robert VanKranenburg accounted for all Lingleville's scoring, throwing a 50-yard touchdown to Ruperto Huerta and running for a 30-yard score against Sidney and passing for a 15-yard TD to Marcus De La Cruz against Cherokee.

"We got inside the 10 two more times and couldn't score (against Cherokee)," said Lingleville head coach Justin Del Bosque. "But we moved the ball well."

One promising Lingleville drive ended in a fumble, the other when the Cardinals ran out of downs.

Senior running back Addison Hunter went down against Cherokee and did not play against Sidney.

"I think he rolled his ankle," Del Bosque said. "I hope that's all it is."

VanKranenburg ran the option for the first time in his career.

"He did a great job on it; it looked good," said Del Bosque. "We saw it then we put it right back in the bag. We don't want to throw too much out there."

Lingleville concludes its preseason at 6 p.m. Friday in Kopperl, where the Cardinals join Milford, Jonesboro and Kopperl for a four-way scrimmage.
