Ryker Thompson recently achieved the highest rank conferred by the Boy Scouts of America by becoming an Eagle Scout.

Thompson is the son of Joe and Shelley Thompson of Stephenville, and is a member of Troop 68, which is sponsored by the Stephenville Optimist Club. He has been a scout since the first grade, having been recognized with many honors, merit badges, and distinguished awards.

As a Cub Scout, he earned the Arrow of Light Award, the highest rank for a Cub Scout. As an older scout, he earned the Baptist Religious Emblem Award and was inducted into the Boy Scout honor society, the Order of the Arrow.

To become an Eagle Scout, Thompson earned 69 merit badges, held leadership positions within his troop, and completed a service project at Valley Grove Baptist Church where he remodeled the Children’s Ministry rooms.

Thompson had to plan and design the project, put funding in place to pay for it, and then led his fellow scouts and volunteers in carrying it out. A breakfast fundraiser was held by Thompson to raise funds for the project.  Thompson enlisted the help of family members, other scouts, and members of Valley Grove Baptist Church

to complete his service project. The group spent more than 282 hours completing the project.
