City administrators and the council met Monday night for the first of four budget workshops conducted this week.

Three key issues on the table include decisions in regard to sales tax, property tax and city personnel issues.

Fire chief Jimmy Chew had a positive feel for the meeting.

“I've had input into the budget before last night's meeting and am satisfied with what we got,” he said. “On the fire department side, we remained status quo. Last year we had several large capital projects. This year, in regard to large equipment, there was nothing. Our equipment is in good shape. It should be a couple of years before we'll need to make another capital purchase.”

The budget workshops begin at 5:30 p.m. and will continue to be held in the City Hall training room through Thursday evening. The public is encouraged to attend.

A public hearing of the finalized budget will be held Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall.
