A man fading in and out of consciousness was airlifted to John Peter Smith Hospital Tuesday morning after losing control of an 18-wheeler and rolling into a ditch on U.S. Highway 377, according to DPS Trooper Terry Jones. The 45-year-old driver was extracted from the cab of the tractor trailer with head and chest injuries and a broken leg. His load of scrap metal shifted while coming out of a curve, according to Jones, causing the truck to topple over spilling iron, steel and wire across a ditch and part of the roadway.
