Meals on Wheels of Erath County again received an $18,000 grant from commissioners Monday, which enables the organization to seek additional funding from the Texas Department of Agriculture.
"Our program has proven to be an invaluable service to our local homebound elderly and disabled residents," Executive Board President Dr. Don Stewart stated in a letter. "The need in Erath County continues to grow as our population increases in number and in age."
TDA awards grants to supplement and extend existing services for certain home-delivered meal programs supported by local governments. The resolution passed Monday confirms sound accounting practices and certifies the program benefits elderly and disabled populations.
"Sheriff (Tommy) Bryant and I both serve as back up drivers and know from experience this is a worthwhile program coordinated by wonderful people," Pct. 1 Commissioner Jim Pack said. "Meals on Wheels is very much needed and much appreciated by so many of our senior citizens in Erath County."
Meals on Wheels is now working to complete the grant application to the TDA by Nov. 1.
