It may take a lot of time and convincing to get Jimmy Buffet to perform at the Birdsong Amphitheater, but his guitar player and accomplished songwriter Mac McAnally is another story.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, his energizing, island-style country music will drift across City Park along with the familiar tunes of Larry Joe Taylor for the last performance in the TexStar Ford Summer Concert Series.
Doug Montgomery, general manager of Texstar Ford Lincoln Inc., said he purchased McAnally's latest album, "Live in Muscle Shoals," this summer and hasn't stop playing it.
"I've had that album two months now and I listen to it every time I get in my vehicle," Montgomery said. "I can't stop listening to it."
Since McAnally first drew the attention of Buffett and Hank Williams Jr. 20 years ago, he has written hits for Reba McEntire, Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson, Dolly Parton and other artists who have been listed on the Billboard Top 100.
The Country Music Association has named him Musician of the Year every year since 2008.
McAnally has a unique style of his own as a singer and songwriter, though his music will remind you of Buffet's and Taylor's coastal favorites.
“This is the first time for us to have Mac McAnally in Stephenville, and we are very excited to have such a talented artist perform for us," said Drew Wells, director of community services. "We hope everyone will come out to enjoy themselves and we appreciate Doug Montgomery and TexStar Ford for making these free performances possible.”
The Summer Concert Series is sponsored each year by Stephenville Parks and Recreation Department and Texstar Ford. The first of this summer's two concerts was held July 4.
The concert is open to everyone and organizers encourage music fans to bring a lawn chair and plenty of water, and wear cool clothing Thursday night as daytime temperatures are expected to hit triple digits.
