Tanner Martin, the teenager who allegedly shot and killed his 13-year-old brother Monday night has been released from the Hamilton County Jail after posting a $10,000 bond.

The Hamilton County sheriff's office is releasing few details about the investigation. Calls and an email sent to Sheriff Gregg Bewley have not been returned.

But one woman who knows the family and asked not to be identified said the shooting is nothing more than a tragic accident that has devastated the family and stunned the city of Hico.

She said the brothers were at a friend's house Monday night. They had spent the afternoon swimming and had plans to play football the next day.

When they arrived at the friend's house, there was a loaded gun on a table.

She said Martin picked it up and it discharged, shooting the 13-year-old in the chest.

That account has not been confirmed by law enforcement officials.

On Tuesday, the sheriff's office issued a short press release stating a 9-1-1 call was made about 10:45 p.m. Monday reporting a shooting that had occurred in the 400 block of N. Cedar Street.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim inside the house.

Martin, 17, now faces murder charges.
