WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery, the hallowed grounds of the nation's war dead.
Under sunny, blue skies, Obama stood at attention at the traditional playing of "Taps" after the wreath was presented. His appearance was the first of two Memorial Day outings. At a second event later Monday, Obama was to speak at a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
He was joined at Arlington National Cemetery by first lady Michelle Obama.
