The official qualifying list for the 2012 NCAA National Championships in Pueblo, Colorado were announced Tuesday afternoon and Tarleton is sending a pair.

Jeff Smith will represent the Texans in the 400m hurdles while Nikki McNorton will represent the TexAnns in the high jump.

"Any time you get an athlete in the national championships it's an honor," said Tarleton head coach Patrick Ponder. "It is well deserved for both of them.

"We had five athletes on the list and we'd like to have all five but this was an extremely competitive year across the board," he continued. "However, the fact that we got two athletes in is a great honor and I know Jeff and Nikki will represent Tarleton in a first-class fashion."

Smith has dominated the competition during the regular season, posting 10 different 400m hurdle events in the top 3, while also breaking the school record three different times including the automatic qualifying time of 51.82 at the Lone Star Conference championship.

McNorton has won the high jump event at six track meets this season, including the LSC championship, while posting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in every event this season. She hit the automatic qualifying mark with a leap of 5' 10.75'' (1.80m) at Abilene's last chance meet May 9.

The national championship will take place at Colorado State-Pueblo May 24-26.
