In honor of the 2012 Summer Olympics, the Saint-Gobain Abrasives plant is hosting the First Annual “Saint-Gobain Olympics” for its employees.
All Stephenville employees have the opportunity to participate in 10 events over a 14 week period, including swimming, volleyball, kickball, softball, soccer, track & field, bowling, flag football, horseshoes and basketball. Employees have been divided into four “countries” that are competing against each other throughout the games.
“We wanted to find a way for people to get more physically active, like ‘Play60,’” says plant manager Darin Barton. “After only a few discussions and some organization, the Saint-Gobain Olympics has taken on a life of their own! I’m proud of our employees’ involvement, spirit and professionalism. On top of that, we’re also having a lot of fun!”
A soccer tournament held recently marked the official start of the Stephenville Games. Seven teams - more than over 70 employees - fought until the bitter end. Ultimately, it was Team Aruba (Customer Service) that took home the “Gold”, beating Nepal 7-1.
At the closing ceremonies scheduled for Aug. 12 (the same day as the “real” Olympics), all the Stephenville Games participants will be recognized for their efforts and their commitment to LiveWell and getting active.
