Keep Stephenville Beautiful hopes residents will be interested in adding color to the city ? knockout color, that is.
The non-profit organization is encouraging residents to add knock-out roses to their yards, and the more the merrier.
Knock-out roses are disease-free, extra-long blooming, hardy and long lived, and continue blooming from spring into fall. The shrub grows to about three feet high.
Knock-out roses can be bought at nurseries around the city but Keep Stephenville Beautiful is selling them as a fundraiser for $15 each. These roses are available in single or double red and pink and come in three-gallon containers.
With Motherís Day just around the corner, the rose bushes can be ordered now by calling Janet Whitley at 968-2571. The roses will also be available at homes on the second annual Garden Tour, scheduled for Saturday, June 2. Arrangements for payment and pickup or delivery will be made at the time of purchase.
Keep Stephenville Beautiful continues to sponsor beautification projects around town. The organizationís membership spearheaded the planting of the new beds around the courthouse square, contributed to the Tarleton Alumni Associationís project on McIlhaney Street, will contribute to the exterior landscaping of the downtown public library, and plans to replace benches and trash receptacles around the city beginning with the square. Additional projects are in the planning stages.
