A female driver was airlifted to John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition and a man was transported by ambulance with unknown injuries to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville Wednesday after an accident on State Highway 6 west of the intersection of U.S. Highway 281.

The driver received a laceration to her forehead after falling fell asleep at the wheel, according to Department of Public Safety Trooper BJ Hill.

Hill said the woman woke up after drifting slightly off the roadway, narrowly missing a 25-feet-deep ravine, overcorrected and rolled her truck into the ditch.

Emergency responders cut the trapped woman from the vehicle while she clutched the steering wheel moaning in pain.
