HOUSTON (AP) — The parents of Houston-area sextuplets born last month say one of the newborns is recovering from bowel surgery but that they are hopeful all six babies will be home within a few months.
Lauren and David Perkins of the Houston suburb of Pearland told reporters at a news conference Wednesday that their three boys and two of their girls are doing well. One daughter, Leah, continues to deal with some health issues, but her parents say she is a "fighter." Leah underwent surgery Monday to repair a portion of her bowel.
The infants were born April 23 at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Officials say five of the babies, born 10 weeks premature, are now breathing on their own.
