The Cowboy Capital Rollergirls, Stephenville's hometown flat track roller derby team, made an appearance at the Tuesday meeting of the Stephenville City Council.
CCR founder Ashley Gill said CCR, a non-profit organization, strives to improve the community, and the city and citizens can call on the 25-member team whenever assistance is needed with community projects.
Gill also said all proceeds raised through CCR bouts and other fundraising efforts are given back to the community through support of charitable causes.
The team made a recent donation to the Stephenville Lions Club and also plans to donate proceeds from a bout on Saturday to Relay for Life. The "Cinco De Mayhem" bout will kick off at 1 p.m. Saturday with fun and games in the parking lot of the Stephenville Roller Rink, and the bout begins inside the rink at 3 p.m.
Also at Tuesday's council meeting, Mayor Nancy Hunter was declared an honorary rollergirl and was presented an official CCR t-shirt.
Meanwhile, team members present at the meeting, which included an elementary school counselor, administrative professional, a business owner and more, introduced themselves and their connections to the community.
