It has been almost fifteen years since the Tarleton State TexAnns have beaten Texas Wesleyan in the friendly confines of Wisdom Gym.
But in front of 1,546 in Stephenville on Tuesday, the TexAnns disposed of the Lady Rams, 93-43.
With this victory, the TexAnns have cracked the 90-point mark in back-to-back games for the first time since the 1996-97 season.
Tarleton started the contest by jumping out on a 14-2 run over the first 4:26, when the TexAnns connected on 6-8 from the floor and 2-3 from beyond the arc.
Wesleyan did not crack the double-digit mark until just under six minutes left to play in the half, but by that time, the TexAnns had extended their lead to 27.
“I thought the first possession set the tone for the first half,”?said Head Coach Ronnie Hearne. “We had sevreal passes, and then made a lay-up. It was a good start and sets the tone. I told them we have to keep playing together. A lot of teams, when they have a big lead, will start thinking of themselves and their stats, but not us and I’m really proud of that.”
Tarleton shot 53-percent in the first half, while holding Wesleyan to a mere 12-percent from the floor.
Tori Skarke was the offensive bright spot early and often for the TexAnns.
Skarke had 14 points in the first half, shooting 5-7 from the floor and 4-5 from beyond the arc in 12 of the first 20 minutes of play.
Skarke didn’ít see much action in the second half due to the large lead, and finished with 14 points and a rebound in her 18 minutes of action.
Since Skarke took over in the starting rotation, the TexAnns have outscored their opponents by 37 points.
Morgan Stehling tied Skarke for the team lead with 14 points, and also grabbed four boards.
D’Anna Dingler, Shelby Adamson and Tara Towns were the other TexAnns to crack double-digits with 11, 11 and 12 points respectively.
Tarleton owned the paint against the Lady Rams, outscoring Wesleyan 42-8 down low and winning the rebound battle, 49-40.
The defense once again shined for the TexAnns.
Tarleton came into the contest forcing 22.7 turnovers per game, and things were no different against the Lady Rams.
Tarleton forced 22 turnovers, including 16 on steals, blocked six shots and turned those Lady Ram miscues into 37 points.
Texas Wesleyan scored only 17 of their 43 points from the floor, while the rest came from the free throw line.
Every TexAnn on the roster scored a point on Tuesday. Tarleton will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Odessa for a rematch with Texas-Permian Basin at 2 p.m.
